Context
Galerie Wanecq occupies a singular position among Parisian antique dealers. Founded in 1950 by Jean Wanecq, it is rooted in a tradition of high standards, careful selection and transmission around antique furniture and works of art. Its positioning is based on a strong specialization: fine French 18th-century furniture and objects, understood in a broad sense from the reign of Louis XIV to the Consulate.
The website had to translate this world with accuracy. The goal was not to create an overly demonstrative or aggressively commercial platform, but a digital showcase capable of respecting the prestige of the gallery, the quality of the works and the expectations of a demanding audience. Collectors, decorators, curators, dealers and antique art enthusiasts must be able to browse the pieces, understand their interest, access essential information and immediately perceive the seriousness of the selection.
The challenge
The main challenge was to create a website that was sober, elegant and functional, without ever overshadowing the works. In the world of antique art, the interface must step back and let the pieces speak. Each item page needed to highlight the photography, title, period, description, materials, possible attribution and historical details, while maintaining a clear and pleasant reading experience.
The project also had to meet an international logic. The gallery addresses both French and foreign clients, which required a bilingual structure, smooth navigation and a presentation clear enough to support visitors with different profiles. The website had to combine aesthetic restraint, documentary precision and ease of use, with an architecture flexible enough to evolve as new acquisitions are added to the catalogue.
- Create an elegant catalogue website for an antique art gallery
- Showcase the works without overloading the interface
- Structure a bilingual French / English catalogue
- Present detailed, readable and carefully designed object pages
- Respect the gallery’s high-end positioning
- Design a flexible technical base for catalogue updates
The solution
Edikka designed a custom catalogue website conceived as a digital extension of the gallery. The architecture favors a simple reading path: presentation of the house, access to the catalogue, browsing of the works, detailed item page and contact. The design is based on a sober, controlled and elegant approach, giving full presence to the photographs and descriptions of the furniture and works of art.
The development made it possible to structure an administrable catalogue, with item pages able to host rich content: titles, categories, periods, descriptions, visuals, French version, English version and additional information. The website was designed to offer a smooth experience on desktop and mobile while maintaining a strong visual restraint, suited to the world of prestigious galleries and antique dealers.
- Creation of a custom catalogue website using PHP and MySQL
- Specific front-end integration using HTML, SCSS and JavaScript
- Implementation of a bilingual French / English structure
- Creation of detailed item pages for furniture and works of art
- Visual presentation enhanced through a sober and immersive interface
- Clear catalogue organization to make browsing the pieces easier
- Development of an administrable base for new acquisitions
- Optimization of readability across desktop, tablet and mobile
The result
The Galerie Wanecq website offers a digital presence consistent with the image of the house: discreet, elegant, demanding and focused on the quality of the works. The catalogue becomes more accessible, item pages are better structured and the whole experience allows the gallery to present its pieces to a French and international audience without losing the sobriety expected in the world of antique art.
The project demonstrates the importance of custom development for art-related businesses, where every detail matters: information hierarchy, image quality, reading rhythm, navigation, bilingual content and the ability to manage a living catalogue. The website does not try to overplay the digital effect; it creates a clear, durable and refined presence in service of the collection.
- A digital showcase faithful to the gallery’s prestige
- A clear, sober and administrable artwork catalogue
- Bilingual browsing adapted to an international clientele
- Better structured item pages to enhance each piece
- An elegant interface that keeps priority on the works
- A durable platform designed to support the evolution of the collection
